Praise Together

We are a band of Christian musicians inspired by the Holy Spirit to preach Jesus' Word and inspire the community thru music...
I formed Praise Together in 2016 but I can't say that it was my idea! I was pretty much consumed with my hard rock group (the revived Jagged Edge). The record was selling in Europe and we were back to opening for national acts (Uriah Heap, Iron Butterfly, etc...). One night I was awakened from a sound sleep. I layed there with my eyes wide open wondering why I was awake. I then heard a voice tell me... "Lose the rock band and start a praise band"! By another twist of fate, I landed at St. John Fisher parish (after 22 years at my previous parish). That is very significant because the ENTIRE rhythm section of Praise Together is from there! Right after I received my middle of the night musical direction, Bill, our drummer said to me... "Dave, we should start a praise band...". That same day, Bill talked to Jennifer and told her about our intentions to form a band. Jennifer had been praying to find a praise band to sing with. There are more stories like Bill and Jennifer's and you can read about them in the BIOs below... Praise Together seems to keep growing due to circumstances "beyond our control" and I hope that Praise Together can touch your heart through its unique musical style.
GOD Bless!

I was born in southwest Detroit. I began my professional singing career in 1968 working with classic rock and top 40 bands playing in local pubs and restaurants. In 1972, I was briefly on the road with a musical revue group playing primarily in southwest United States including Las Vegas. Upon returning to the Detroit area in 1973, I formed a top 40 band, performing several nights a week at many of the local nightclubs and restaurants in the metro Detroit area. In 1977, I decided to work as a vocalist in a weekend band and did that for a few years. In 1982, I formed a one-nighter 5 piece band entertaining primarily at weddings, private parties, and occasionally nightclubs. In the early 2000's my husband Peter and I formed a duo group, Just Duet, performing at private parties as well as restaurants. In early 2016, Peter told me that the bass player in the St. John Fisher choir was interested in starting a contemporary Christian musical group and asked if I would be interested in joining. Having no experience with that genre, I was reluctant at first, but upon further consideration decided to give it a try. I am very glad I decided to join the Praise Together band where we lift our voices and music to God. I enjoy playing golf and tennis and photography and being Nona (Grandma) to 4 grandsons.

Violin, Vocals, Percussion
I started playing violin in grade school and studied until I graduated from Franklin High School in 1969. While still in school, I would write songs and continue to play my violin in rock and roll bands for a few years following college. I added guitar in the 70's and later on, I began singing lead for a small supper club ensamble. I began performing with the church choir in late 1994 and I continue to minister with them. In 2007, I joined an orchestra called the Birmingham Musicale String Ensemble that performs for gifted and special needs children plus some assisted living facilities. I continue to perform with them as well as an Irish singing group. In May 2016, Dave and I started his 'dream' of a Praise Music band that we called Praise Together. Dave and I first met in 1967 when he was playing rock and roll at a dance club in Monroe Michigan. Life went on and we never saw each other until we met again in February, 1994 and were married on June 3rd that same year on a beach in Maui.

I walked out of the bedroom at my grandmother's house in my Little Mermaid onsie pajamas with my Fisher Price Karaoke machine just wailing "Part of Your World" at the top of my lungs. "At four years old, I knew you were going to be a star!" said Grandma. I don't know about being a "star," but I do love immersing myself in music as a vocalist. Music keeps me balanced and relaxed and generally happy. It really is part of my soul. I began really getting involved in vocal performance in Middle School. From 7th - 12th Grade I was a part of the Choir, Women's Ensemble, and Midland High Meistersingers (11th & 12th) all under the direction of Robert Sabourin. At Grand Valley State University, I was a part of an acappella Madrigal group that performed at renaissance fairs across the state. I also was a part of the GV Women's Ensemble. After college, I moved to Orlando where I started my career in Marketing and where I became a voice in the Candlelight Processional, a mass choral program centered around the story of the Birth of Jesus, narrated by celebrities and held at Disney's Epcot World Showcase Pavilion. With the downturn of the economy in 2008, I moved back to Michigan to live with my parents who had relocated to Lake Orion. After spending a year away from music, I joined Christ the Redeemer Adult Music Ministries in 2009, where I met Sandy, Deb, Dave, and Mike. I still sing there during the Christmas & Easter seasons as a 1st Soprano. Dave reached out to me in the Spring and asked if I would come check out this new band he's assembling. I was weary at first with my busy schedule and not fully understanding the "why." It was a little rocky at first as I tried to gain that understanding and find a groove, but I stuck around knowing that every new team has its growing pains and to have faith in God and his plan for us - to spread His love through music and praise.

Lead Vocalist
I was raised Christian at St. Andrews in Rochester Hills and attended Notre Dame Preparatory in Pontiac. I first found an interest in singing when I saw the Phantom of the Opera movie in high school. After that I plunged myself straight into it by joining the school choir and taking private vocal lessons. Auditioning for the high school musicals just seemed the natural next step. My voice grew stronger and my sight reading improved, landing me a choir scholarship to Alma College in Alma, Michigan. While there I feel more in love with singing and was thrilled to be offered a spot in the top choral program my sophomore year. We traveled all throughout Michigan and parts of Florida sharing our gift of song with local churches and communities. My time with the Alma choir also took me on a trip to Scotland where we sang classic folk songs from the lowlands to the highlands. Since graduating from college I found myself really only being able to sing bar karaoke or dabbling in some open mic renditions with friends. I found some more substance, however, when I joined St. Andrew's contemporary Mass choir. I had to unfortunately move on from that once moving to Ferndale and onto a more demanding job. A year later a colleague invited me to check out a new praise and worship band starting up in my area. Intrigued, I decided to give it a shot; no harm in just checking it out. Singing regularly again has brought great joy to my life, and being able to do it while praising the Lord has brought purpose to it.

EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument), Mandolin, Vocals
I started playing recorder and clarinet at age 9 until 15 when I switched to singing. I sang in the performance group "Young Pioneers" at Oakland University. I joined my first praise band in 1997, "Vision Plan". We put out 1 CD, "You Are the Reason", where I arranged the songs, sang backup, and lead vocals. I became a member of the Christ the Redeemer music ministry in 1994, (how I met Dave and Debbie), where I sing, play penny whistle, mandolin, and percussion. In 2000, I joined the Irish group - "The Pat Cooper Irish Band", playing mandolin, octave mandolin, EWI, percussion, lead vocals and Irish dance. I was asked by Dave to join this talented group in 2016, and I'm having a blast. I've been married to my husband, Joe, for 30 years and have 4 beautiful children, and 4 adorable grandkids.
Bill

Bill Doral

Drums, Percussion
I started playing drums over 50 years and progressed from Mom's Tupperware and pot lids to school concert bands and drum/bugle corps. In 9th.grade at West Junior High I was recruited to play with local Rochester garage band "We Who Are", later at Rochester High School I joined "Tea" which had moderate success in the Detroit area. Later "Tea" morphed into "1776" a talented, polished touring band with professional management, a recording contract and radio airplay.Through the early 70's we were fortunate to play concerts from Canada to Florida with many well known acts. Eventually band members got married, became parents and decided to live a normal life with steady jobs. Contemporary Christian music has intrigued me for some time and I have played with a few Sunday church choirs over the years. I currently play at St. John Fisher with Dave and Pete and at St. Andrew with Jennifer and Joseph. I was thrilled when Dave agreed to help put a praise band together so we could reach a larger audience. "Praise Together" has given us a chance to use our talents, 'on loan from God', to praise and honor Him and spread the "Spirit".

Lead Guitar, Vocalist
I am one of the newer members of Praise Together, and am grateful for this opportunity to play music for God in a way that I never would have even dreamed possible. After receiving an acoustic guitar from a departing priest at my grade school, I learned my basic chords under the tutelage of a local music minister at the age of 14. I then quickly switched to electric guitar and formed a number of cover bands in high school, playing an assortment of punk, alternative, and rock "standards" just for fun and at annual talent shows. I also got a chance to learn the ropes of CCM with the music ministry team at my high school, playing at Mass and at other various functions. Once in college at OU, I joined the university parish Saint John Fisher, where I also began to play frequently at the weekly services. When Dave happened to ask one day whether I knew of any "lead guitarists" interested in joining an up-and-coming worship band, I replied that I unfortunately didn't, but I'd love a chance to audition and see if I could make the cut. Well, I haven't been fired for typical lead guitarist behavior yet, so I guess that sure counts for something :)

12 String Guitar, Vocals
I began my musical career with violin lessons when I was 8 until I was 13. When the Beatles arrived in 1964, I decided to switch to guitar. I also performed in my high school glee club. After playing weddings in my senior year at Oakland U. in 1973, I started playing in the music group at St. John Fisher Chapel. I have been there ever since and it has become an awesome second family to me. They have a lot of fine and talented people in that group. In May of 2016, Dave proposed the idea of starting a praise band and asked me to come to a preliminary rehearsal. I've enjoyed it very much and it is awesome to perform with all the talented musicians and singers. I believe that music is one of our greatest gifts from God.
Mike

Mike Carter

Lead Vocalist, Acoustic Guitar
Got my first guitar real guitar when I was seven. I owe my dad a great debt of gratitude for gifting me with the ability to express the little raw musical talent I had. I guess he had to do something with a kid who did not have the typical drive towards sports like he did. Well the enthusiasm of youth got swallowed up by the laziness of my teenage years and I put it down altogether. It wasn't until at age 20 when I came back to my faith in Christ and was given some opportunities in church to do guitar folk music that my interest in guitar was reignited. I owe that to the Lord. I have loved contemporary Christian music my whole life since those days and it has only gotten better with time as the number of and quality of Christian artists have blossomed. I am proud and privileged to be part of this group, whose mission is to give glory to God and encourage and inspire any who will listen to the good-good news of Jesus Christ through song!

Musical Director, Lead Vocalist, Keyboards
I was born on the east side of Detroit and began playing piano at age 10. I started working in various rock bands in the early 1970's playing gigs around the metro Detroit area. In 1984 I joined my wife Adele's 4 piece band performing many one-nighter gigs. In the early 2000's we decided to go to a duo format and we enjoyed playing private parties and restaurants doing primarily jazz, blues and standards. In 2003, I was offered a full time music minister and choir director position at St. Rene church in Sterling Hts. In 2014, I began playing Masses with the choir at St. John Fisher parish in Auburn Hills. I also play harmonica and sing and as well as writing original songs. I currently work full time at Industrial Machine Products in Oxford, MI. I enjoy playing golf and being Papa to 4 grandsons.

Bass Guitar, Vocals
I got my first guitar on my 8th birthday (57 years ago...) and almost immediately formed a Dixieland band with such greats as "Lemon Lips Lewandowski" (on clarinet - what else?) !  Since then I played in Rock bands (Jagged Edge, Crystal Maze, Poorboys, etc...), Jazz bands (Southfield Jazz Orchestra, Nightlights, etc...), Bar bands (Jamie Coe & the Gigalos, Sky High), Concert bands (NOCB) and even a Country & Western (Paint Creek Boys) band. I was the musical director for a large Hawaiian show (Polynesia '77) and I played in show bands (Vinyard) as well as show pits (doing musicals). I Joined Christ the Redeemer's music ministry back in '94 and have played for church services ever since. I am currently supporting the music ministry at St. John Fisher and, somehow, I have been blessed yet again by being joined by these wonderful, talented musicians forming the Praise Together Band. What a ride this has been!
